Last week, the evergreen LEEE JOHN announced he was preparing something a little different – a jazz EP. His team told us that the release was to mark the 20th anniversary of what many consider his most complete album, ‘Feel My Soul’.
The announcement came via the release of a taster track – a lazy, languid, gentle, jazzy ‘All In Your Eyes’ a perfect showcase for Leee’s unique voice. The EP wins release this weekend. It’s a five tracker and helping Mr J delivery is quite a line up – the players include Mel Gaynor (drums), Dr. John Watson (keyboards), Neville Malcolm/Miles Danso (bass), Dave Mansell (brass/woodwind), Yves Erson (guitar), and guest vocalist Elaine Delmar. Ms Delmar guests on a gentle version of the standard ‘Blue Skies’. The other standard on the set is a version of ’Wild Is The Wind’ which was a 1957 movie song originally recorded by Johnny Mathis… though in 1981 David Bowie covered it. I wonder is that the inspiration here?
The other tracks are ‘Always Known I’ve Loved You’, ‘Your Heart, My Life’ and the aforementioned ‘All In Your Eyes’ – all delivered in a silky-smooth , intimate setting. FYI – Leee will be live at Pizza Express Soho in London on Monday 23rd February 2026 – ticket link:
